Saltine Toffee

MishMash Globe | SaltineToffee

Saltine crackers, salted or unsalted
1 cup butter or margarine
1 cup dark brown sugar
2 cups milk chocolate chips
3/4 cup chopped pecans, or coconut flakes

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (205 degrees C).

Line the cookie sheet with tin foil. Make sure the foil overlaps the edges to make it easier to get the toffee out. On top of the tin foil place a silpat baking sheet.

Line cookie sheet with saltine crackers in single layer, no overlaps.

In a saucepan combine the sugar and the butter/margarine. Bring to a boil and boil for 3 minutes. Immediately pour over saltines and spread to cover crackers completely.

Bake at 400 degrees F (205 degrees C) for 5 to 6 minutes. Remove from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips over the top. Let sit for 5 minutes. Spread melted chocolate and top with chopped nuts, or if there are any nut allergies use coconut flakes.

Cool completely and break into pieces.
